Link tracking explained: what every metric means

Every time someone clicks your short link, JustShorten records a set of data points. Here is what each one means and how to use it to make smarter decisions about where and how you share links.

Total clicks

What it is: The total number of times your short link was followed.

How to use it: The baseline for measuring reach. Compare across links to see which content or channel drives the most traffic.

Country

What it is: The country from which the click originated, detected via IP geolocation.

How to use it: Useful for understanding your audience geography. If most clicks come from a country you are not targeting, you may need to adjust your distribution channels.

Device type

What it is: Whether the click came from a Desktop, Mobile, or Tablet device.

How to use it: If the majority of your clicks are mobile, make sure the destination page is fully responsive. A high desktop ratio may indicate a professional audience.

Browser

What it is: The browser used — Chrome, Safari, Firefox, Edge, etc.

How to use it: Helps you prioritise which browsers to test your landing page in. Safari dominance suggests a heavy iOS audience.

Referrer

What it is: The URL of the page or platform the user came from before clicking your link.

How to use it: Tells you which channel is actually driving clicks — email, Twitter, WhatsApp, Reddit, etc. "Direct" means the user typed or pasted the link directly.

Timestamp

What it is: The exact date and time of each click.

How to use it: Use the bar chart to identify peak engagement times. Schedule future posts for when your audience is most active.
